Texans on the Election

A new poll produced by members of the UT-Austin Government Department and the Texas Politics Project, found that 67% of Texans think the country is moving in the wrong direction. This reflects similar polls across the rest of the country.

Texans do, however, support John McCain over Barack Obama 42 to 33%, and incumbent Republican John Cornyn over challenger State Representative Rick Noriega 44 to 31%. Libertarian Bob Barr and Independent Ralph Nader are both polling less than 5%.

Keep in mind, however, that Nader will not be on the ballot in Texas.

Fox News’ Viewers are ‘Balanced!’

According to a new study from The Pew Research Center (.pdf) Fox News’ viewers are the most evenly divided among Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. Fox News really is balanced after all! I’m surprised by CNN’s numbers, however. I would have thought CNN’s numbers would have looked more like Fox’s.

CNN: 51% Democrats, 18% Republicans, 23% independents

MSNBC: 45% Democrats, 18% Republicans, 27% independents

Fox News: 33% Democrats, 39% Republicans, 22% independents

John McCain and the Internet(s)

Here’s an interesting article claiming John McCain wouldn’t be a good president due to his lack of technology knowledge.

Find it here.

No word yet on George Washington’s experience with Internet Explorer.

Brain Size Does Matter

The Scientific American claims that larger brain sizes may correlate with higher IQs!

In humans, brain size correlates, albeit somewhat weakly, with intelligence, at least when researchers control for a person’s sex (male brains are bigger) and age (older brains are smaller). Many modern studies have linked a larger brain, as measured by magnetic resonance imaging, to higher intellect, with total brain volume accounting for about 16 percent of the variance in IQ. But, as Einstein’s brain illustrates, the size of some brain areas may matter for intelligence much more than that of others does.

“Obama Nation”

A new book by Jerome Corsi recently came out attempting to attack Barack Obama in a similar manner to the attack on John Kerry in 2004. The attack on John Kerry, “Unfit for Command,” assailed his record in Vietnam.

We’ll see if the attacks stick, but with Obama appearing to slow down in the polls recently, this could really mean something. In addition, ”Obama Nation” is predicted to hit number 1 on the New York Times Bestseller list.

Update: John Kerry has launched a website Truth Fights Back, to counter attacks like those in Corsi’s book.
