AP Policy Paper Update

Update on the Policy Paper:

Several of you are struggling with your papers. In order to give you a chance to be successful I am going to give you, as a class, a one day extension. Until 9:08 AM on Thursday morning.

In addition, I plan to give you at least 45 minutes in class to work on your papers. During this time you can ask me questions, and I will be able to read over your papers.

Please be prepared to work on your papers or your semester reviews in class tomorrow. It will NOT be acceptable to ‘hang-out’ or ‘chill’ during this time.

Please spread the word about this to your classmates ASAP.

Hays HS Senior Shirt

Some students at Hays HS created a Senior Shirt. According to the Austin American Statesman, the front of the shirt reads “HHS Seniors 2010” and the back says, “Well, that sucked.” The Hays Free Press also reported on the incident.

The Principal has since banned the shirt and confiscated all shirts from students who have worn them on campus.

Is the principal violating the free speech rights of the senior students? Should the government (i.e. Hays CISD, the courts of Hays County) protect the right of the students to wear the shirt?

What does the Tinker case say about student speech? Can this help us understand the issue? What about the Bethel case?

RRISD Inclement Weather Procedures
Weather forecasters are predicting the possibility of snow and ice in the Austin area on Friday. No changes to the school day on Friday have been implemented at this time. In the event of bad weather or emergency conditions necessitating the closing of schools before or after the school day, the media will broadcast the information and parents and students should tune to local radio and television stations to receive this information. Local TV and radio stations will be notified by 6:30 a.m. In addition, the information will be sent via the district e-news and posted on the district’s Web site. An attempt will be made to send a recorded phone message to students and employees at the emergency phone number provided to the district.
If schools are closed due to bad weather or emergency conditions while students are in attendance, the above procedures will also be completed. In addition, instructions will be provided as to the necessary travel arrangements for students. During inclement weather conditions, parents may call the RRISD Administration at 464-5000 to hear an updated message regarding school closings or delays. From the
