A House of CardsThis isn’t the U.S. Capitol, but it’s still neat!
Challenged Ballots: You DecideThe Senate race in Minnesota STILL isn’t decided! The race between incumbent Republican Norm Coleman and Democrat and former comedian Al Franken was too close to call after the votes were counted. In fact, after over 2 MILLION votes were counted, the difference was less than 300 votes. LESS THAN 300 VOTES!!! (Don’t ever let anyone EVER tell you that their vote doesn’t count) The state of Minnesota is currently recounting the votes. While this seems simple, it really isn’t at all. Sometimes its hard to tell EXACTLY what the voters intent is! Can you tell who the voter intended to vote for?
Challenged ballots: You be the judge – Minnesota Public Radio puts together a sample of challenged ballots like this one. Check it out! What do you think? What’s up with the Women?Wow! I found this story absolutely fascinating. Ladies – take pride in the Granite State, New Hampshire!
You can listen to the story on NPR here: Women Dominate New Hampshire State Legislature BTW - Texas had 36 women (by my count) in the most recent Legislature! Most of them were Republicans too! I’m not sure, however, if that number went up, or down, after the most recent election. Do you know Tom?
Google Does ElectionsThis is pretty cool. Google has a feature on maps.google.com where you can analyze the polls! It’s pretty cool and you can look at everything at once, not just one site. Click on “Electoral Votes Estimates” and play away! War of the Worlds: The Mass Media Creates PANIC!On Monday we talked a lot about the Mass media and how it affects politics and politicians. From WNYC: An examination of the power of mass media to create panic. In Radio Lab’s very first live hour, we take a deep dive into one of the most controversial moments in broadcasting history – Orson Welles’ 1938 radio play about Martians invading New Jersey. And we ask: Why did it fool people then? And why has it continued to fool people since? This radio story is GREAT to listen to. What do you think about the radio story? Is it possible for the mass media to create panic? Does this relate to the panic that we’re having now about the state of the economy? |
