Democratic Convention!

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) began last night in Denver, CO! Usually these Conventions are full of pomp and circumstance, so orchestrated that the speaker can’t sneeze without permission. First Read has a good analysis of the last night’s speakers up.

There will be rock bands, movie stars, speeches, and lots and lots of cheering! I’ve never been to a national convention, but I understand these events always sit on the verge of pure chaos. Pure, orchestrated, chaos.

But that’s interesting about this DNC is that there is STILL feuding between the Clinton and Obama camps. Some Clinton supporters are still quite upset about what happened in the primary and they’re going to let everyone know about it. What’s interesting is that Hillary Clinton herself has put her full support behind Mr. Obama.

The Democrats hope to get several things done this week at the Convention. Most of all, however, they want to introduce Joe Biden as the new VP, and get a big boost over McCain in the coming weeks. Remember, as soon as the Democrats finish their Convention, the Republicans start theirs up!

It’ll be a fascinating week, and a fascinating introduction to politics for most of you!

Watch the conventions tonight and write your constructive comments on them here for 2 ‘possible points.’

No Veep for Romney or Clinton???

One month ago a McCain/Romney vs Obama/Clinton presidential race seemed plausible.

Today, this seems less likely.

Mitt Romney seems to believe that the animosity between himself and John McCain is enough to keep him off the Republican presidential ticket. In an interview on WILM-AM he said,

“I think there’s some great people he could choose from and I expect he will do that. But I don’t plan on being part of the ticket.”

Perhaps he is being suave, but I believe he really thinks he will not be chosen.

In addition, the advocacy group established to pressure Barack Obama to pick Hillary Clinton as his running mate has shut down.

“Because it seems that Senator Obama has made his decision to offer the slot on the ticket to another candidate, we believe that continuing to ask him to pick Hillary is no longer helpful to our party’s chances of winning in November,” two former Clinton staffers wrote in an e-mail to the group they started, ‘Vote Both.’

It appears Mitt Romney MAY not be McCain’s running mate and Hillary Clinton WILL NOT be Obama’s running mate.

Hopefully VP announcements will be made in the next week.
