Biden’s no ‘yes man’

Joe Biden

Joe Biden was recently catapulted onto the national scene when he was selected to be Barack Obama’s running mate.

The Obama Campaign, in a tech savy move, sent the announcement out via text message to Obama supporters early Saturday morning.

Apparently, Biden pushed quite hard to get onto the ticket. (Wouldn’t any Democrat?)

In case you don’t know anything about him here are two great articles on him and his personality.

Texans on the Election

A new poll produced by members of the UT-Austin Government Department and the Texas Politics Project, found that 67% of Texans think the country is moving in the wrong direction. This reflects similar polls across the rest of the country.

Texans do, however, support John McCain over Barack Obama 42 to 33%, and incumbent Republican John Cornyn over challenger State Representative Rick Noriega 44 to 31%. Libertarian Bob Barr and Independent Ralph Nader are both polling less than 5%.

Keep in mind, however, that Nader will not be on the ballot in Texas.

“Obama Nation”

A new book by Jerome Corsi recently came out attempting to attack Barack Obama in a similar manner to the attack on John Kerry in 2004. The attack on John Kerry, “Unfit for Command,” assailed his record in Vietnam.

We’ll see if the attacks stick, but with Obama appearing to slow down in the polls recently, this could really mean something. In addition, ”Obama Nation” is predicted to hit number 1 on the New York Times Bestseller list.

Update: John Kerry has launched a website Truth Fights Back, to counter attacks like those in Corsi’s book.

Mark Warner and the Democratic Convention

Mark Warner will deliver the keynote address on the second night of the Democratic Convention. Warner is the former Governor of Virginia and candidate for U.S. Senate. This is big for Mr. Warner!

Typically, the keynote address is awarded to an upcoming figure in the Democratic Party. The future. It’s not awarded to power, its awarded to potential. Previous keynote speakers include:

  • Barack Obama, 2004
  • Barbara Jordan, 1992
  • Ann Richards, 1988

A speech at the Democratic Convention doesn’t guarantee success, however. Former House of Representatives member Harold Ford Jr. spoke in 2000. However, he lost a hotly contested bid for Senate in 2000. Today, he is a party insider, working behind the scenes.

Update: Politico has an excellent article outlining my ideas in this post. The major difference being their skill in political writing! Read it here.
